Welcome to Rewylding CIC! This post is just a little introduction to who we are and why we are here. My name is Kate Goth, I’m the director and founder of Rewylding. If you’re local to the Totnes Area, you may recognise me as I’ve been doing work within the community for 20 years either in Early Years, at Rainbow Nursery, A nanny for 10+ years, In community Arts projects or as a witch offering readings, rituals, workshops and retreats. Having had a tumultuous time growing up in RAF communities and moving to Devon in my teens. I moved to Totnes around 14 years ago and immediately knew I had found the home I had always been looking for. The sense of community and free spirit gave me what I needed to find myself (eventually), underneath all of the conditioning and trauma of my formative years. It is this journey that lead me to bringing Rewylding into the world.

My connection to nature and those who live and work in harmony with it, brought me healing I will forever be grateful for. I have reached a point in my own mental health journey where I feel like I have healed (recognising that it is also not linear and I will be on this journey for my whole life). I went from barely surviving, hanging on by a thread most days and believing I was ‘broken’ to living an unrecognisable life of good health, joy and reciprocity. Something I want to give back to others.

Rewylding was born from a singular moment a few years ago. I organised a ‘community day’ to help out some friends at Blackberry Barn with some much needed land work. My intention was to lean into the old traditions of community work like harvest or barn raising. Have people come together to get work done faster and easier, sharing skills and stories as we worked, eating together and celebrating at the end of the day. 1 member of our group was sat back, taking it all in from the side lines while others cooked sausages and took a break in the shade. I went to check on them because I know they have suffered also. I said “Are you ok there friend?” and he said “do you know Kate, I think this is the most peace I have experienced in my entire life” and that was it. I cried (so, so much) and realised this was it. This is what we have been crying out for.

Recent Studies have built on what I feel we always knew, the impact of nature and community on Mental health. Things like forest bathing, wild swimming and spending time in nature are now getting scientific backing and attention. I think this is great, what I feel less enthused about is the capitalism of it. Rather than grounding with the earth, buy this bedsheet. Rather than spending time looking at living water, buy this lamp that replicates it’s movement so you can continue to be more isolated and productive to this constructed idea of productivity.

On my own journey to wellbeing I looked at what was available for me to access. Things that benefit my creativity or mental health. groups I could join, workshops and retreats etc. 95% percent of which were not financially accessible for me as single income self-employed person. This frustrated me. We are experiencing a cost of living crises and mental health is plummeting. I don’t believe ‘health and wellbeing’ is something we should be priced out of, especially when the wisdom is already here. Good relationships between Humans and Nature is beneficial for both. How do we ensure the wisdom of working with the land and other humans for the benefit of all continues if it is gatekept?

To me, my neurodivergent brain and justice sensitivity, it feels obvious that we have to build new structures. But, how to ensure those with wisdom are paid fairly for their hard work and knowledge and make it available to those with little to nothing to pay, those who arguably need it the most? I don’t have the means to fund it but I have all of the enthusiasm. Here enters our partnership.

Cara walker. One of my oldest, most compassionate friends in this town, already a director of a successful CIC in the community. She shares my vision for helping others experiencing what we have had to work through. To make their journey less painful than ours feels it was. She has the most amazing brain for patterns, details and big thinking. She has the skills and the know how to make things happen in tangible ways. Together we bring this community interest company to you, with the support of so many already.

In witchcraft we have a term ‘me, we, us’. It highlights how the work a person does in healing or empowering themselves (me), is seen and shared with their community, inspiring and helping them to do the same (we). This ripples out into the wider community and the world (us). I believe wholeheartedly in this work. By bringing humans back to themselves and creating space for them to find the ‘me’, by inviting the most powerful force for healing I know, the earth to help them. We can bring about systemic healing.

So, welcome to Rewylding. Where we offer spaces, events, workshops and circles for humans to find their wyldness. We look forward to being a part of your journey, and you a part of ours.

Much Love

Kate Goth
