Spring Update

Greetings wyld friends. Spring is in full swing and so are we. As predicted, we didn’t get much done outside this winter as my goodness it was so wet! But we got some groundwork and site plans laid out, all the first things a garden needs of course. The community garden we are building has been renamed ‘the medicine garden’. Not wanting it to be a disused nettle patch anymore, meant it needed a more fitting name to aspire to. Here we can grow native Medicinals, and offer workshops and sessions to learn about their benefits and uses. The access ramp is now useable which paved (aha puns) the way for heavy wheelbarrow work. With support from our friends at Devon Tree services, who donated a truck load of woodchipping, we have prepared the space for our shelter to go.

Through the winter, we did get a lot done in the background in terms of grant fund applications, cross all fingers for us please, and building systems suited to our needs as a team. Which brings me to our next piece of news, we are delighted to announce a new director to our team. Ivy Lilley! Ivy is incredibly knowledgeable around the language and systems we have to navigate and like Cara, loves a spreadsheet moment.

Through conversations in the winter Cara and I became increasingly aware that we were going to need to bring someone on board for 2026 as there is too much work for the two of us already. In addition, Cara is the mother of twin 4 year olds who are delightfully neurosparkly, they will be making the transition into school at the end of this year and that is potentially going to take it’s toll as they all navigate such big changes. I am really proud that Cara is able to make space for this in her work life, that we celebrate a culture of flexibility for women and champion self care. Cara will remain on board as director and unofficial fount of knowledge but will be handing over some work and training to Ivy while I continue to do the facilitating, development and front facing work.

It honestly feels amazing to have a team of women who are found family to help build and support the vision for Rewylding and its future.

This spring we have held some incredibly connective events in the local area including supporting a tree planting in Totnes, rewilding an old farm, back into forest. It was still pretty wet but our spirits were not dampened. Silver Glade farm is located just along the Sharpham path and overlooks Totnes. I love that I can see the tree babies we planted from all over town. We also have permission to use this site for the odd event and circle should it align, which in late February, for the festival of Imbolc it did. A few of us gathered to weave and connect around the fire, before walking up the hill to enjoy a guided meditation nestled in the trees.

Our Men’s and Women’s circles continue to thrive in the ebb and flow of life, though the weather through winter was somewhat off putting. A few had to be cancelled last minute because the conditions were too bad to even get onsite. A shelter in the new garden will help us stay warmer and cozier for future groups, while maintaining that connection to the land and nature.

The warmer weather brought the return of our day retreat Nourished AF. We welcomed some new faces and a slower pace on the activities. This allowed for some beautiful conversations and a lot of laughs around the fire. The thing with seasonal craft based activities is the pace is set by nature, which in early spring is just getting going. We foraged and made natural cordage from bramble, crocosmia and dandelion. Some even made enough to start a basket! We always eat well and of course, wild garlic featured heavily.

In coming sessions, we will be bringing in more communal cooking and bushcraft skills, maybe even some basket weaving, once the funding arrives we will have some bigger workshop days on cob and (drumroll) building a reciprocal roof for the shelter. This will allow for more community days, workshops and collaborations.

I am brimming with ideas and excitement for summer but overall I am so delighted with the community we are building together, the way people hold space for each other and the feedback we receive, that even in small ways, we are supporting people to take better care of their mental health and each other. Watch this space for our summer timetable.

Much Love

Kate Goth,

Director and Founder
